by bela.black on Jun.30, 2009, under Movies and more

My personal top 10 serial killers i would be most afraid of.Message or comment me if you want me to make another top 10 video. It could be a top 10 about whatever. Song used: Finger Eleven-Absent Elements

From time to time, we see so many horror movies come and go. Spooky, haunted houses, serial killers, slashers, maniacs, mentals, satanic and many others have been pictured in the movie. A lot of sub genres, a lot of remakes, a lot of variations, twist and all that can easily be found through the ages. Yeah, it’s all true. But have we ever thought where it all came from? Or how does the horror movies genre change from time to time?

For you who share the same passion about horror movies, and want to know the road that have been travelled by Horror movies, allow me to have the honor to be your guide. Buckle up, here we go.

Where It All Began

The year was 1922, place: German. I can say that it was the birth of horror movies. W Murnau started the terror and fear thru Nosferatu, nosferatuthe story about bloodsucking vampire. It wasn’t the first vampire movie, as in 1896 Georges Melies made Le Castle Du Diable, but Nosferatu was the first movie where we saw vampire destroyed by sunlight. This one boasted remarkable animalistic makeup that has not been replicated, even with modern technology. Dozens of vampire movies followed after that. In 1931 Universal Studio launched 2 legendary horror movies, Dracula with Bela Lugosi and Frankenstein with Boris Karloff. Both of the movie became a classic and very successful. Boris Karloff even became a legendary name in horror movies history. The Mummy (1932) a silent picture with horror icon Boris Karloff in the title role, remains a classic, with unforgettable make-up and atmosphere. In 1935, the sequel of Frankenstein, The Bride Of Frankenstein was made. This isn’t silent anymore.

Psycho

During 40′s the world’s on war, and it has changed the genre. Horror was almost forgotten as patriotic movies and war has taken the place. It slowly raised again around 50′s, where comedy and musical movies ruled. There were good ones took place at this time, House of Wax is one of the example. 1960 was the time for Hitchcock to make a memorable movie: Psycho. Too bad, this is the only horror movie by Hitchcock, cuz then he made lots of suspence thriller goodies like Rear Window, Vertigo,North by Northwest,Dial M For Murder that kinda changed the genre again. And remember, spaghetti western Movies in the late 60′s also had its moment.

The 70′s

This is the most creative year of Horror movies.Unlike before, horror movies got big exploration, where so many variation of story and evil came in. Note there were lots of controversy and protest happened here. The Exorcist (1973) for example showed disgusting scenes that never been imagined before, like the green puke to the face transformed to evil. This movie was controversial when Catholic Church protested that the demon cast-out in the movie was against the code of conduct. The shining, that based on Stephen King’s novel was one of the best one during 70′s. Later on from this decade to 80s and 90s, lots of movies was made based on his scary novel such as Carrie, Christine, Cujo, It, , Cat’s Eye, Dream Catcher, are the example. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) was a low budget movie that reached a great result. This one introduced “the slasher movie” to the world that later followed by Halloween (say hi to Michael Myers) , Friday the 13th, Scream in the 80′s and 90′s and so on. Omen is a bonechillin’ movie that can still give you nightmare even with today’s technology of making movie.Simply unforgettable. Amityville Horror, based on the true story was the first movie that took place in the actual location. The report said a lot of bizzare and dreadful things were experienced by cast and crew in location.

The 80′s

Freddie Kruger

This is the decade of madness. All gory stuff were shown sadistically for viewing. cutted off body parts were seen everywhere. Nightmare on Elm Street that launched Freddy Krueger to horror hall of fame, and Jason Voorheyes slashing games in Friday the 13th are one of the example. These two had some of their sequels during 80s, together with 3 of Halloweens. And remember how Italian horror movies that have a very sick super bloody vision? Count Romero and Argento for this category. This is also the era where horror expanded to tv.

The 90′s

Funny thing happened in 90s. There’s a tendency of self defense and self actualization by horror character on terror they have made to people. For example Ghost, Bram Stocker’s Dracula that told the story about Count Dracula’s painful love to Mina, or Interview With Vampires that unlocked the mystery of vampire lives. Scream started a new genre, teen horror movies, slashing-serial-killer-who-did-it,which soon followed by I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, and some more. A note in 1999, an independent movie Blair Witch Project became a big phenomena, using a documentation technique to give us fear, tense and mental disturbance. This one inspired some other movies like St.Francisville Experiment, The Lamarie Project and tv series Freaky Links.

2000′s

Ringu

Still too early maybe to talk about horror movies in 2000s, but looks like Hollywood has running out of ideas. They are trying to widen up their view to see new ideas outside that can give new vision on the term of horror. The Ring, remake from Japanese movie was their first success. Followed by The eye, and some other remakes from Asian cinemas. This decade seems being led by Japan and Korea, by making so many horror movies with lack of effects or gory blood but still successfully tortured our feeling. They don’t go with the Hollywood pattern, they just dig everything else that hasn’t been touched yet. Thailand is also emerging as a good horror maker. Indonesian movies too, with amusing number of horror movies every year. We also mark the decade 2000 for the decade of sequels and remakes too, such as Halloween H2O, Freddy vs Jason, modern version of Bram Stocker’s Dracula, Dracula 2001, Halloween Resurrection , The Texas Chainsaw Massacre , House of The Dead, The Amityville Horror and so on. While the effort to combine some genres and produce something new has still been going on. Saw for example, combine the psycho thriller ala Hitchkock with slasher, sadistic, bloody and graphic scenes. My prediction? I think this decade will continue to do so. Hopefully in the next decade we will see some new approach, style and way to present horror movies. Let’s wait and see where the horror movies continue their path.

Jawsfan88′s Top Ten Movie Serial Killers

by bela.black on Jun.10, 2009, under Movies and more

this is a vid of the best movie serial killers.

America’s most dreaded killer remains elusive even today. It is still not known who this Zodiac Killer was. Though the police suspected it to be Arthur Leigh Allen, there was no concrete evidence to support the claim. Since he has been an enigma to the cops, little is known about his early days and what prompted him to become a serial killer. Till date the case is open and world’s top investigators are foxed by the complexity of this case. Allen was the only one who came close to the killer’s description. But his DNA doesn’t match with any of the samples found at the site of crime. The San Francisco Police Department marked this case closed in April 2004 but has reopened it now.

The Zodiac Killers modus operandi is intriguing, as he wrote letters to media in code language about the killings ,sometimes even before hand . In fact, once he even called up the police and accepted responsibility for killing two youngsters in a parking lot. The call was traced to a telephone booth near the Vallejo Police Department. In 1968, the Zodiac killings came to light with the murder of Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday on December 20, 1968 in California City. He shot them point blank on their head. A neighborhood lady Stella Borges found the bodies and alerted the police. But no leads were found. This was followed by a spate of killings which baffled the cops and made them helpless. No conclusive evidence was found in any of the killings.

In 1969, letters were received by the Vallejo Times-Herald, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the San Francisco Examiner. The letters consisted of one third of a cryptogram with a total of 408 characters which he claimed contained his identity. He demanded they be printed on the front page or he would go on a rampage and kill a dozen people that weekend. Though the threatened murders did not happen, all three parts were eventually published.

The cryptogram was cracked in August 1969 by Donald and Betty Harden. Though the message was unraveled it didn’t contain the killer’s identity. According to the excerpts published the letter was as follows:

I LIKE KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH FUN IT IS MORE FUN THAN KILLING WILD GAME IN THE FORREST, BECAUSE MAN IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ANAMAL OF ALL TO KILL. SOMETHING GIVES ME THE MOST THRILLING EXPERENCE – IT IS EVEN BETTER THAN GETTING YOUR ROCKS OFF WITH A GIRL THE BEST PART OF IT IS THAT WHEN I DIE I WILL BE REBORN IN PARADICE AND ALL THE GIRLS I HAVE KILLED WILL BECOME MY SLAVES I WILL NOT GIVE YOU MY NAME BECAUSE YOU WILL TRY TO SLOI DOWN OR STOP MY COLLECTING OF SLAVES FOR MY AFTERLIFE EBEORIETEMETHHPITI.

The last 18 characters couldn’t be unraveled.

The killings continued and flummoxed everyone in Bay Area. The Zodiac Killer also dutifully reported every crime to the police. Though fresh evidence could be collected, they could never be matched with anybody. Letters continued to come to media and so did the killings. There were around 49 murders linked to zodiac killer out of which 15 were occult killings in Northern California.

Theories abound in Zodiac Killers case but no conclusive evidence was ever found. Many films were inspired by this and Hollywood had a fascination for making movies and TV serials on zodiac killer. The killer always signed his notes with ” = 12, SFPD = 0″.

Though police investigated over 2,500 potential suspects, the case is still unsolved. This is one of the greatest unsolved serial killer mysteries of all times in American crime history.

Tom Cruise Producing the Bestseller the Monster of Florence

by bela.black on May.30, 2009, under Movies and more

Tom Cruise has bought the rights to “The Monster of Florence”, the novel by the master thriller writer Douglas Preston and by Mario Spezi the Florence journalist. The book has been at the top of the best sellers in the United States (eight weeks in the New York times best sellers list), after being voted the best thriller of the year by Amazon. Douglas Preston, whose bestsellers have already inspired several successful Hollywood films, has described this film as the biggest film contract of his life.

Tom Cruise, owner of United Artists, is going to invest 50 million dollars into making the film, and will be the producer, and possibly also an actor in the film, in a partnership also involving Metro Goldwyn Mayer and Warner. The screenplay will be written by Christopher McQuarry, who also wrote the screenplay for “The Usual Suspects”. Apparently the american actor fell in love with the idea, and was completely entranced by the book, which tells the story of the most famous italian serial killer, who was responsible for eight double murders committed between 1968 and 1985, killing young couples in remote spots in the countryside around Florence.

The novel in reality is the counter investigation by the journalist Mario Spezi, who has looked into the affair for the last 40 years and believes that the real monster of Florence is probably a person who has remained on the edges of the enquiry. In fact due to his ideas Spezi spent 23 days in prison accused of sidetracking police enquiries, and Preston was expelled from Italy accused of the same thing.

The extraordinary legal vicissitudes of the florentine journalist, which raised an enormous controversy about the freedom of the press in Italy, is intertwined with this disturbing and morbid story of murder, which happened in one of the most-loved places in the world: Florence the splendid hills around it. And in fact the Chianti area near Florence will be at the centre of the film, which will be shot next year in this landscape of centuries-old vineyards, olive groves and medieval villages. Allowing yourself the luxury of a stay in a prestigious property is the best way of discovering the real attraction of the places in this area which are rich in beauty, history and culture

In fact it was this countryside that was behind the meeting of Spezi and Preston, who came to Italy in the year 2000 with his family to fulfil a dream he had had for years. It was then that he discovered that right next to the fifteenth century house he had rented was carried out one of the terrible crimes of the monster.

Private Investigator Files: Jesse James, Studying the Legend

by bela.black on May.30, 2009, under Movies and more

Perhaps the most famous and glamorized outlaw who ever lived, Jesse James has been known throughout history as a Robin Hood, robbing from the overly-rich railroad tycoons and freely giving to the poor.  He is historical in theme and legend, but, what most people know is only the Hollywood story, and not the real Jesse James.  His tales have been passed from generation to generation and are mythical in proportion and nearly apocryphal in their power to enthrall.

So, let’s start with the most basic question: how did Jesse James start his life of killing?

Jesse James joined the guerilla outfit of “Bloody Bill” Anderson at the age of sixteen and served, at different times, under Quantrill, Anderson, and George Todd, three of the bloodiest men in the annals of American history.

For two years, Jesse was tutored in every technique of cold-blooded murder, violence, thievery, and arson.  While his past is never an excuse for the epic serial-killer proportions that Jesse James reached in his prime, it is a truth that cannot be denied.

When Jesse had been tutored for a year, and dubbed a full-rank guerilla fighter, he was given the order by George Todd to “kill every male thing that wears a blue uniform” one dark night at Centralia.  Jesse got out his gun with the rest of the gang and started his killing spree, without remorse.  When the massacre was over, Jesse had managed to kill nine men.   This may seem like a small number, but by this time, Jesse James had an impressive record in killings (some thirty men by this time) for a boy of just seventeen.

And that is just the beginning of Jesse James.  In later years, he was to start his own gang of outlaws and terrorize the American West in ways never before seen, and with a cruelty never before imagined.

If that story wasn’t enough to satisfy your appetite, visit Private Investigator to learn more about the Wild West Outlaws and the Private Investigators that caught them. And, if you’re in need of detective services, from infidelity cases to lost loved ones, visit Private Investigator to hire one of the nation’s foremost Private Investigator’s, Sandra Hope.

The Deliberate Stranger Movie Review

Deliberate Stranger

Movie Details :

Starring :

Mark Harmon as Ted Bundy

Frederic Forrest as Detective Bob Keppel

Ben Master as Detective Mike Fisher

Runtime – 185 mins

Movie Review

The Deliberate Stranger is one of the earlier movies dipicting the life and crimes of one of America’s most notorious serial killers, Ted Bundy. The movie is based on the book of the same name written by friend and colleague of Bundy’s, Richard Larson.

Larson’s perspective on the Ted Bundy story leaves out a lot of what made Bundy the monster that he was ie. his mental state and focuses more on the events, time lines and of course the outward persona of Bundy. Not suprising since Larson was one of Bundy’s supporters when he was accused of the brutal murders of all those women, it is easy to see why Larson drew attention to Bundy’s apparent all-American boy image in this movie.

This is where Mark Harmon comes in to the picture. The decision to cast the cute, wholesome looking Harmon in the starring role was an inspired choice. Harmon gives a convincing performance and is credible as the charming confident Ted and also as the psychotic killer Ted.

As mentioned before this movie does not get into the mindset of Bundy, nor is it graphic in nature when dipicting the murders, for this reason Harmon is the ideal choice of actor for the part as we see only what those around Ted at the time saw, a charming, handsome, polite man who would be the last person you would believe to be a killer.

The role of Bundy’s mousey girlfriend Cas Richter is played by Gylnnis O’ Connor. The relationship between the two is portrayed with real emotion, you can understand the reasons Cas stays with Ted despite her suspicions of him as she seems to think herself lucky to be in a relationship with a man who apparently has it all.

Bundy’s victims are played by attractive model/actresses such as Terry Farrell who plays the role of Katie Hargreaves.

An interesting aspect of this movie is the fact that it is tells the stories of Bundy, the detectives tring to catch him, his girlfriend Cas, and the families of the victims.

This is a great movie and is worth a watch if you have not seen it or another watch if you saw it when it came out in 1986.
